A Desire to Stop Eating Compulsively

I’m so glad that you’ve come to the OA Milwaukee website.  Maybe this is your first time hearing about OA. We OA members welcome you.

I remember when I came to my first meeting. I walked in the room because I was overweight and my husband thought the therapist we saw (one time!) said my weight was his fault! Well, that’s not what she said, but ultimately I was referred to OA.

All that talk about spiritual recovery, God and one day at a time made no sense to me; all I wanted to do was lose weight thank you and then move on to celebrate my life, slim and happy. I didn’t realize that my overweight was a symptom of my difficulties living life. But obviously something clicked because I kept going to meetings and today I am grateful for all facets of recovery: physical, emotional and spiritual.

I’m glad you’re looking into OA and hope you’ll try a meeting and keep coming back. In order to attend, you don’t have to believe anything. You just need to have a sincere desire to stop eating compulsively.
